How to Throw a Literary Fantasy Book Launch Party

I’m back! After a month-long sabbatical and full site overhaul, I am finally back to write deeply and fill the world with wonder! A little side note, before plunging into the meaty material: I have been sending out surveys recently, and according to the feedback I received, the content I provide that you are all most interested in receiving is ‘writing advice’ and ‘classic book reviews.’ Which is great, because that’s what I love too!… Read More »How to Throw a Literary Fantasy Book Launch Party

Here is me reading from Halfbreeds, Part 2, Chapter 7, “A Study in Humanity.” You can read along below if you like: Chapter Fifteen — A Study in Humanity Nappy was not caught up in the love fever that seemed to rage all through the village of Good. He had always been a calm, level-headed fellow, with a knack… Read More »Reading My Work at Waterline

How Publishing a Novel is Like Completing the Hero's Journey

First, the Thrill At last, I have held a book I wrote in my hands! I have felt the thrill of completing, and perfecting, and publishing a book, and it is both a miracle and an agony! But then, all art is. When I published Halfbreeds three years ago, it was certainly exciting, but ultimately anti-climactic. There seemed little difference between when the book was on my computer and I could email it to someone,… Read More »How Publishing a Novel is Like Completing the Hero's Journey

Don’t Give Up – Write to the End

Last night, I skimmed through the 500 page word document of my novel manuscript, and stopped every time I encountered a block of red text. Those sections were notes I left myself about missing scenes in the narrative, and with dedication, I knocked each one out of the park! All my missing scenes are now written, and I officially have a finished, readable story from start to finish.Woo hoo! Those red sections were like scary warning… Read More »Don’t Give Up – Write to the End

Freaking out about Publishing

I had a total freak out moment yesterday! I all of a sudden got very terrified – not just about publishing my book, which is scary enough on its own – but about being a writer at all. I’ve heard about writers feeling like frauds, and for the first time, I really felt that!My mom talked me down from the emotional ledge, thankfully. She reminded me of the big picture: of the fact that I… Read More »Freaking out about Publishing
